Akeeba Backup 2/3 - How to Schedule Automated Backups

Welcome to part two in our three part series on Akeeba Backup, the best backup tool for Joomla! This video shows you to how to automate your backups, so you can just set it ,and.........wait for it.... Forget it!

In the previous video, you learned how to install the Akeeba component and manually backup your Joomla site. But, that's only the half of it.

We'll be using a Cron job on our server to schedule the backups. A Cron job is short for "chronological". Don't worry, Akeeba makes this simple by giving you the exact command to use for your site. Just copy the command from the Akeeba backend, and paste it into the Cron job field on your hosting account control panel.

We're using SiteGround for this example because they're offer great performance for Joomla sites. (By the way, they have an awesome discount on Joomla hosting going on right now).

I'm sure you'll find this process as easy as I did. Please leave a comment if you have any questions. And stay tuned, because the next video will be all about restoring your site from a backup file. Sign up to our newsletter below to be the first to know when it's available.

I would contact Go Daddy's customer support to ask if they allow Cron jobs. If not, then checkout this new service called Watchful. It's an external dashboard for managing your Joomla site & scheduling Akeeba backups. I highly recommend it. https://watchful.li/
