How to Transfer your Joomla site to a live web server
If you've been building your Joomla site locally, then this video tutorial will help you transfer your site to your live web server. If you haven't gotten that far yet, then check out my tutorial, How to install Joomla on localhost.
Transfering your Joomla site to your hosting account is a simple process that doesn't require any extensions, coding knowledge or server experience. This tutorial goes over these four basic steps to get your site up & running on your live web host:
- Zip the contents of your local joomla site
- Export your Joomla database from phpMyAdmin
- Upload the zip file to your live hosting account
- Import your site's database to your hosting account
I should mention that I'm using Hostgator's Cpanel in the video above. If you've seen my other tutorials, then you know that highly recommend HostGator (yes, it's an affiliate link because I use and trust them).
You won't find a better Joomla hosting company out there. In fact, HostGator was awarded the Best Joomla hosting company two years in a row for their outstanding customer support (which I can personally attest to, having hosted dozens of sites with them).
That said, I hope you enjoy this Joomla tutorial video. If you have any questions or comments, let me know in the comments below & I'll do my best to reply to each.

Scott - fantastic tutorial, thanks, being a beginner to Joomla and having spent the last week building my website on my local server, I was dreading this part of the process....turned out to be a piece of cake, not often these things work like clockwork first time round
Thanks !!!

Hi Scott.
Nice tutorial. I think your tutorials help many new people on Joomla.
One suggestion for this tutorial: change the path for tmp and log folders by writing these pathes right in the configuration.php or by doing this in the admininterface configuration system tab and server tab.
The pathes should look like:
/home/username/public_html/tmp
/home/username/public_html/logs
Thank you for the great tutorials :)

Thanks Wolfgang! You're right. I forgot to include that part in the video. Nice catch!
