5 Minute Video Tutorial: How to install Joomla 2.5 on your Localhost

Written by Scott Greenwald Posted in Joomla Tutorials

Follow my simple 5 minute step-by-step tutorial for installing Joomla 2.5 on your local computer. This video will show you how to set up a MySql database and run the Joomla 2.5 install package on your local machine.

Why install Joomla locally? Developing a Joomla site on your local computer will save you time, and money on web hosting & domain fees. Then, when you're ready to go live, you can simply export the site and database to your web host.

thanks, i got to the screen where database info is added in the joomla setup, but it hung, so i exited out. when i try to restart it, now instead of the install program i get a listing of the files in the directory "joomla 2.5". any ideas? i tried removing the folder and unzipping again, but still just get "Index of /~linda/joomla 2.5". thank you!!

What tools are you using to create the database? I would suggest starting the Joomla install over from scratch. Delete all the files in the directory, remove the database and run the install again.

I followed the video about 5 times. When I type in my localhost info into the browser I get a 404 Not Found Page. I have gone step by step. The only thing that I can see that is different is that your "sites" folder has a round globe icon and my "sites" folder icon is an actual folder.

First, I would check that Web Sharing is turned on in System Preferences > Sharing.
Also check MAMP > Preferences > Apache for your Document Root folder settings.
